For more than 15 years, the Humane Society of Cherokee County has been a compassionate force for animals in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Run by a dedicated group of 40 volunteers and community members, the organization is a no-kill, nonprofit focused on rescuing dogs and cats, preventing cruelty and neglect, and addressing pet overpopulation through its vital spay and neuter programs. With hearts full of love and a mission rooted in action, they work tirelessly to provide second chances to animals who need it most.
We are driven by a deep commitment to saving lives, said Lora Neldon, board member of the Humane Society of Cherokee County. Whether we are rescuing a stray, arranging a foster home, or helping a family access affordable spay and neuter services, every step we take brings us closer to a more compassionate community.
The organization has been participating in the Save-A-Label program for over 10 years. With donated Best Choice Family of Brands labels, found at local Reasors Grocery Stores, collected at businesses throughout Tahlequah, at monthly meetings, and even through the mail, supporters have found a simple yet meaningful way to contribute to the Humane Societys mission. Funds raised through the Save-A-Label program go directly toward caring for the animals covering food, medical care, shelter and supporting ongoing spay and neuter efforts.
For those who want to help but may not have the means to donate financially, programs like Save-A-Label offer an easy, tangible way to make a difference. It’s a beautiful thing, Neldon shared. Every label collected helps save a life.
Thanks to the dedication of its volunteers and the generosity of the community, the Humane Society of Cherokee County continues to be a safe haven for animals and an essential part of the Tahlequah community.
