For over three decades, the Twin Lakes Literacy Council has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for residents in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Founded in 1986 by a passionate group of volunteers, the organization has been committed to providing free, one-on-one tutoring for children and adults in the community. Whether it’s helping an adult earn their GED, preparing a teenager for the ASVAB exam, or supporting individuals as they navigate financial and health literacy, the Twin Lakes Literacy Council offers a wide range of services to enhance the lives of its learners. Their tutoring programs also cover critical areas like math, reading fluency, workplace soft skills, and more; empowering community members with the skills they need to thrive.
“The Literacy Council partners with a variety of local organizations to ensure their services meet the needs of as many individuals as possible,” said Heather Powell, Executive Director. “From working with Arkansas Community Corrections to supporting the local schools and Danfoss Corporation, Twin Lakes Literacy Council is deeply embedded in the fabric of the community.”
Twin Lakes Literacy Council has been an active participant in the Save-A-Label program for over 15 years with their 52 members frequenting Harps and Town & Country for their Best Choice Family of Brands product labels. Donations from the Save-A-Label program help fund everything from educational materials to staff wages, allowing the council to continue providing essential services at no cost to their learners.
